Why can't I open disk management in Windows XP?

I'm trying to put pictures on my computer that are on my cameras memory card and I can't find the card on my drives. When I try to open any of my drives other then C or D it just freezes. I right clicked on My Computer>manage>disk management to look at what drive my memory card was in and when i click on disk management it doesn't open. It just says "connecting to logical disk manager service" and nothing happens. I waited for 10 min and nothing happened.
