My apartment doesn't meet the State Fire Prevention code?

I signed a year lease in August, paid my security deposit, and today I got a letter from the fire marshal that my building has not been kept up to code. Does this mean the landlord broke the lease and I can get my deposit back and move elsewhere? They said there is a possibility it can be fixed but I honestly don't feel safe anymore. What can I do?
